This unit was a nice review for what kinds of materials I can use and how and why I should structure a detailed lesson plan (for instance, so that a substitute teacher can easily take over the class for me if need be). The unit helped me realize the benefit of using non-authentic materials, especially for lower-level ESL students. However, I would most likely use more authentic materials as long as the level is advanced enough (at least beginning intermediate).From watching both videos, I have learned what not to do and what to actually do when teaching a lesson. I have learned to not intimidate the students by saying it is really easy. Also learn to give good facial expressions and gestures during a lesson to make what I'm saying understood more clearly and effectively. I believe the second video is much more effective than the first because the teacher had really engaged their students and had a positive attitude.
