This unit covered different methods of evaluating and testing students' progress in the classroom. The main methods for assessing a student's language level are: tutorials, student self-evaluation questions and tests. There are many different types of test, each with a set purpose. Placement and diagnostic tests determine the level of the students and are usually given at the beginning of the course. Progress tests clearly check on the progress of the students and need to be given regularly. For these, it is important to only test over the content that has been taught in the given section. Practice tests are helping in preparing for different external tests and should be given in the formats that will be expected. External tests include: TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC and Cambridge Assessment (which offers a range of tests).
