Unit 11 deals with methods for teaching effective receptive skills via reading and/or listening. Some of the following approaches involve; selecting topics of interest to students. The students will not be motivated to read unless they find the topic of interest to them. If topic appears uninteresting to students, teachers must also create an engaging activity as to invite student interest before conducting the corresponding reading or listening activities.
Teachers must also anticipate any complex vocabulary as to Pre-teach whenever necessary. However, the teacher must strike a balance between Pre-teaching complex vocabulary and allowing students to understand new words via context. Because not all topics will most likely be of interest to all students, teachers must vary the topics discussed over a period of time.
