There are two skills in receptive skills; reading skill and listening skill. We read or listen for a purpose and entertainment. The sub-skills that we can teach to our students in reading and listening skills are prediction, deduction, detailed reading, scanning, and skimming. To avoid the potential problems in lesson for the receptive skills, the followings are useful such as pre-teach vocabulary and grammar, careful selection of texts, choice of topic, create interest before you start the actual lesson.In this unit, we learned a more advanced version of English grammar. People who speak English as their mother tongue are not familiar with these rules because the language is more natural. Having learned these different rules helped me understand the rules behind certain expressions and why we place certain words in specific places in our sentences. Learning about modal auxiliary verbs, passive voice, relative clauses, and phrasal verbs helped me understand so I can be able to re-teach it to the students.
