This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this section, I read about broad-strokes teaching techniques and methods of lesson planning. In particular, the chapter I read focused on elicitation techniques, the ESA model of a lesson, and different ways to structure Engagement, Studying, and Activation — for example, in arrow lessons, boomerang lessons, or the more flexible patchwork lessons. I found the ESA model particularly interesting and valuable to learn about, because it allows me to begin writing my lesson plans with a tried-and-true structure in the back of my mind. This can help me write stronger lesson plans by showing me the sorts of things I ought to do as a teacher. In addition, I found the lists of activities falling under ESA very helpful; while I did not memorize them now, I will certainly return to them once I write my own lesson plans.
