This unit covers the main approaches and methods of teaching EFL, then applies them within the framework of Engage, Study, Activate (ESA). Study is the best time for introducing language points, correction, drilling, worksheets, etc. Engage should get every student to speak, warming them up to thinking and speaking in English, possibly facilitating the conversation slightly toward that day's lesson topics. Activate focuses on utilizing the language points freely within activities like role-playing. All lessons should start with an Engage activity and end with an Activate activity. Aside from that, variances on the ESA framework depend on the level of the class as well as the individual students. I learned a lot of possible ideas for each stage of ESA and this unit was a very helpful introduction to classroom situations.
