Unit 4 helps us understand four major issues of the present tense (and its 4 aspects): its form, usage, typical student errors, and some teaching ideas for the active stage.
Understanding the grammar forms as a whole is essential for language teachers. All the tenses are important; however, the present tense has a major relevance due to the fact that it is usually the first tense to be taught. Thus, grasping its complexity is of paramount importance at the moment of teaching. Something, that really caught my attention was the fact that there are languages with fewer tenses than English. Some languages, like Chinese, only have a present tense and some markers to help the speaker refer to other moments like the past. Therefore, understanding the present tense could be a milestone in the learner's overall learning process.
