In this unit, I learned about a lot of learning and developmental theories, the difference between native and second language acquisition, different approaches that can be used for teaching the young learner, different layouts for learning environments, and different levels of skills and maturation within the students. I found the portion on theories quite interesting, since I come from a Montessori background and did not realize that it fell under Constructivism, which is a combination of environmental and maturation theory. I thought it was interesting that by the age of 5, we have already learned much of the structural/grammatical rules of our native language. I specifically like the learning environment portion and will be going back to that to think of creative settings I can use in the classroom to switch things up.
