This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 2 covered the basics of learning and development from ages 5 - 13 years. However these are broken down into two groups 5 - 9 year olds and 9 - 13 year olds. They vary drastically from the way the lessons are taught, group 1 (5 - 9 yr olds) require higher energy teaching, more physical activity, drilling and repetition. While group 2 (9 - 13 yr olds) tend to like more interaction with their peers, thinking and more relevant societal topics like technology through computers, TV and film, music channels and social media. Group 2 are able to handle quiet study periods better unlike Group 1, due to their more mature ability to direct their focus. I found it helpful to understand more about the learning gap between the ages 5 - 13, so I can better prepare relevant activities that match their skill and concentration levels.
