Unit 5 focused on classroom management as a means to building and maintaining a positive learning environment where all students are valued and can succeed. Many aspects of managing the classroom to create this environment were discussed. There are proactive steps a teacher can take to help create a classroom culture where students excel because they feel safe and respected. These steps include being punctual and prepared with interesting and well planned lessons, as well as making sure the seating arrangement is suitable for the days activities and takes students personalities into account. The importance of eye contact, voice and gesture was also discussed as a means to build rapport and aid student understanding. Effective methods of building rapport were delved into as well as what to do when problematic behavior arises.
