This module looks at phonology and pronunciation.
There are two factors to look at with pronunciation: Intonation, which describes the fluctuation in pitch during the sentence to convey a meaning, and stress, in which a syllable in a word is pronounced differently.
There are several ways to teach intonation such as humming or singing, nonsense words, gestures and writing on the board. To teach stress contrastive stresses can be used, as well as gestures and writing on the board (eg: underlining) as above, and choral work and stress marks.
Sometimes sounds are changed when pronounced properly - either linked, dropped, changed or sounding like an extra letter is added.
Finally phonology was looked at, including where the sounds are made in the mouth and how those sounds are formed, and also the international phonemic alphabet.
