In this unit, we identified the roles of the teacher and the learner, which can vary depending on what type of environment you are working in as well as people's personalities and motives for learning or teaching. We also covered special considerations for teaching adults such as being more mature than younger learners but also having more complications in their own lives which can mean inconvenient schedules. There are also advantages and disadvantages to teaching groups versus one on one- there may be more individual attention on one on one but it can lack group work and variety. The skills students want and need include reading, writing, listening and speaking. There are many different teaching methodologies used to teach these but the one we are focusing on and is viewed as most effective is ESA- Engage, Study, Activate.
