This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered teaching new language and dividing that into subcategories of teaching new vocabulary, grammar and functions. Teaching vocabulary can be more or less difficult depending on the vocabulary itself. Some factors that can add to this include if the new vocabulary is similar to the students' native language, similarity to currently known English words, appropriacy and and spelling and pronunciation. Students need to know details about the vocabulary that they are learning as well such as the meaning, use, spelling, pronunciation and interaction. These things all help to give a better understanding of the new words and how they can be used.
This unit also gave examples of the various types of ESA teaching structures that can be used to teach these different things such as straight arrow and patchwork structures.
