This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I found this unit especially useful in terms of the way a class should be handled. As a teacher in the past, I often used orderly rows, but I realize that a circular/horseshoe arrangement may be more beneficial when dealing with mid-sized classes. It was particularly useful to discover some tips on how to increase student participation in the class and to use TTT appropriately. I also appreciated the tips on establishing rapport, which is very important to maintain a light, positive attitude in the class, as opposed to a discipline-heavy atmosphere. Now, I believe discipline is necessary to establish order in the class, but this should not be the overarching atmosphere. Students should feel free to speak without being humiliated, and I believe a lot of that freedom comes from the teacher establishing that kind of atmosphere.
