In this unit, I learned about several classroom management strategies. In particular, I learned about effective use of eye contact, gestures, and the voice; the advantages and disadvantages to different student groupings and classroom arrangements; how to give individual attention and increase student talking time while maintaining enough teacher talking time; and how to establish rapport and maintain discipline in the classroom. In general, I learned that success in the English language classroom depends largely on my awareness of many factors (including those related to the students themselves, the classroom, and the school at which I would be teaching) and my ability to effectively account for these factors when establishing a friendly and inviting learning environment, interacting with my students, and planning my lessons.
