This unit covered solutions to potential problems that arise in the ESL classroom. I feel that I learned the most from the section on reluctant students. The solutions presented were using pair work, controlled practice, role-play, and a tape recorder. I feel that all of these methods can be used in conjunction. For example, if controlled practice is used toward the end of the study phase, it could lead to a more successful role-play in the activate phase.There are two motives for reading and listening, for a purpose and for entertainment. How we read and listen consist of predictive skills, specific information-scanning, general idea-skimming, detailed information and finally deduction from context. The topic of the text or dialogue can also help motivate the students. Teacher can create interest by discussing the topic, showing pictures, predicting what the text will be about in the \"engage\" activities.
