This unit focused on managing the class. First we looked at how gestures, eye contact, and vocal input can be used to prompt, engage and assist students with learning. Then, grouping of students was looked at. The pros and cons of the 4 main types of groupwork (whole class grouping, individual grouping, pairing and grouping) were studied. Next we looked at the organising of the classroom and different types of seating (rows, horseshoe, and tables) and the position of the teacher in the classroom. This was followed with a look at writing on the board and the preparation and position required, along with getting individual attention. Next teacher talk time and giving instructions was looked at and how best to do this (using visual aids etc). Lastly rapport and discipline were looked at, and how to address these within the class.
