This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
The meaning of the modal auxiliary verbs are usually connected with ideas of certainty, possibility, probability, doubt, permission and obligation.
The verbs can, could, will, would, should, may, might, must, ought and shall are verbs which 'help' other verbs to express a meaning.
These \"modal verbs\" have no meaning by themselves. A modal verb like would has several varying functions: it can be used, for example, for ability, polite request, preference and repeated past action.
There is also a passive voice, when the object of an activity becomes the subject of the passive verb. Both sentences have same meaning but the focus is different. Ex: I ate pasta last day ( Active); The past was eaten last day ( Passive).in the first sentence the attention is on the agent, but in the second sentence the agent is much less important.
