The focus of unit 12 is on the two productive skills, namely speaking and writing. The unit has two sections: One deals with the speaking skill and the other deals with the writing skill.
The speaking section starts by discussing the difference between accuracy (where emphasis is put on correct language production) and fluency (where emphasis is put on creativity and flow of the communication) activities. It also contains a list of controlled, guided, and creative speaking activities that teachers can employ in the class. Finally, a number of techniques to encourage student interaction have been provided.
The writing section commences by listing four major factors that should be considered by teachers (i.e. Handwriting, spelling, layout, and punctuation).
Both sections contain a concise ESA lesson plan for the relevant skill.
