Unit thirteen reintroduced some concepts that are a daily part of speaking English, but are rarely given much thought. The unit covered intonation patterns of speaking, techniques for indicating and teaching intonation, word stress and the alteration in the meaning of a sentence based on stress, sound joining, linked speech, and the phonemic alphabet and symbols, among other concepts. I think, given the time to study, I could greatly benefit from implementing the phonemic alphabet; this is a concept I have only briefly encountered, and I appreciate the tool I now have. I especially benefited from reading the various pronunciation exercises in this unit, and I learned more about how to explain English pronunciation to my future students. The diagrams were especially helpful, and I intend to use them in the future for referencing.
