Receptive skills are so important. Being able to read and understand English allows you to access media (TV, news, books, etc) and participate in conversations, even if you?re mostly listening. Reading ability is one of the reasons I really wanted to learn Chinese. I love Chinese literature, and I wanted to read it in its original language. My experience with learning Latin and Attic Greek was almost entirely receptive, since people don?t usually speak or write new content in those languages anymore.Wow. This unit showed me that grammar wise I have a long way to go with teaching. I do wonder whether or not when teaching it is important to put a large emphasis on explaining the forms and usage for each grammar type to students as it would be time intensive. Still, the usage aspects are very helpful to understand these grammar points. I think the list of irregular verbs is also very helpful and could be used for my students as it shows some of the most common irregularities that the students will face.
