Unit 14 describes choices teachers have in choosing material for developing lesson plans. A balance between relying on established materials and creating custom materials is encouraged. This unit inspires online research which reveals an amazing amount of interesting materials as well as ideas to stimulate creative exercises for particular levels and interests. The subject of course books is not so delightful--leaving an impression that under the wrong circumstances a course book may be like a straight jacket to the teacher and the class. Even with a course book, however, it appears the teacher is able to improvise by supplementing, adapting, and replacing. Designing a lesson plan around an authentic reading text took awhile, but left me, like my imaginary students, more confident that I can succeed in the real world. Thank you.
