This unit has described the four different tenses within the present tense in English. As a native English speaker, I never had to learn these tenses, but in order to teach them to non-English speakers, I need to be able to label and explain each one. I anticipate that describing in English to English-language learners when exactly to use each tense may be difficult, but I also assume that I would introduce tenses piecemeal so that by the time students learn the present perfect and present perfect continuous, they are already more comfortable with many other aspects of the language. I anticipate that the present simple tense would be the first one to introduce along with basic language, and then it would make sense to introduce the present continuous tense a little bit later but still in early stages of English language learning.
