This unit covered some of the problems teachers can face when first starting to teach. If one does not at all know the class one is about to teach, one should establish rapport by certain games and activities. If one has a very large class, one should make sure that one does a lot of group activities and pairwork so that every student feels included. If students start talking in their native language, one should make sure that the activities are understood so they don not have to resort to explaining the exercise to a classmate in their native language. One should also never give in to speaking in their native language but always try to explain activities etc. in English. If students are shy and do not participate much, one should never force them to speak but rather break the ice by having them perform role plays or do pair work.
