This unit covers topics concerning how to manage students in the classroom. Some important things to consider are what you have to work with--so the age, skill level, nationality, personalities, and the number of students, as well as the amount of space in the classroom itself. The overall goal is to increase the amount of student talk time and interaction, allowing them to make use of English, while still maintaining an appropriate level of control over the room, preventing it from becoming excessively loud or unruly. The teacher should use eye contact and gesture to accentuate clear, appropriately loud, and varied vocal communication in order to encourage student participation. Instructions should be delivered clearly, using language at a level the students understand, with guides from visual cues and demonstrations as necessary.
