Even though this unit reviews the most basic forms of English grammar, it proved very useful in detailing parts of speech that may not be used frequently by teachers who work with students above the beginner stage. For example, I have not discussed the difference between transitive and intransitive verbs with my intermediate and advanced students. It was also beneficial for me to review conjunctions and gerunds. The unit is laid out sensibly; it starts with the basic elements of sentence structure: nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. Then it progresses to parts of speech that are used to build more complex sentence structures: comparatives and superlatives, count and noncount nouns, prepositions, conjunctions, and gerunds. This unit provides a solid foundation upon which more complex and nuanced elements of grammar can be added.
