This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit focused on the roles of both the teacher and learner, detailing characteristics of what makes a good example of each. The common thread between the two, in my opinion, is engagement: for both the teacher and learner this means showing up to each lesson with full attention and participating. Learning a language is not a passive exercise and the student must show up at every class and for all homework/exercises in order to learn. I also found the section on the role of the teacher helpful in that each level was named and described with key characteristics, such as manager, organizer, et al. Lastly, the section on language levels was particularly illuminating in that each level (i.e. beginner, elementary, intermediate, etc.) was succinctly described with identifying characteristics of language acquisition at each level.
