Despite speaking and writing equally important, in my observation speaking requires more motivation and encouragement compared to writing. In the case of writing, people are given more time to think before they can write and after they have written something, they have the written work of what they have written and may easily spot mistakes or errors they have made. However, in speaking despite the fact that you may “take back†what you have said, it is more difficult for students to spot their mistakes or errors compared to writing.
All receptive and productive skills require an ample amount of practice due to the differences on what each person finds easier, whether be it writing, speaking, listening or reading. It is the job of the teacher to find each students’ weakness and make sure they improve on what they lack.
