From this unit, I feel like I understand the uses of various kinds of tests, and the importance of testing. Tests can help teachers understand the students' abilities, place students into corresponding levels according to skill, assess progress and retention throughout the course. For students, testing can show them the areas in which they may need extra assistance. Practice tests and studying for external exams will usually increase their likelihood of achieving jobs, visas, and permits.Unit 14 focuses on course books and lesson materials, which can be divided into authentic and created materials. Finding the right ESL teaching books can be a real problem, that?s why I find this unit interesting and very useful. Learning about advantages and disadvantages, and different options for using the course books, as well as the importance of a few key aspects when looking at which books to select, gave me some useful ideas for choosing the right books for the right ESL levels.
