Future tenses can describe something that will happen in the future at a certain time, will have happened by a certain time,and to make predictions and assumptions, among other usages. Because of the varied potential uses, I can personally say that the future tense has always been one of the most problematic areas when I've taken foreign language classes. I think special care needs to be taken explaining why some sentences will use a future conjugate and others seem to be using present tense verbs. This could be very confusing to students.In this unit, I have learnt that there are plenty of ways to assess a student?s English level, such as tutorials, evaluation by the students and tests. Among them, tests are the most commonly used in a language teaching. As an ESL teacher, one should test students based on the different needs. After learning English in class for a period of time, teachers are able to measure the students? progress and prepare some tests so that teachers will adjust the teaching in class and students are able to achieve certain goals in and out of class.
