Regarding pre-teaching vocabulary to older students, I wonder how much responsibility the teacher has and how much responsibility the students have. I realize, of course, that this depends on the students' English levels, but can the teacher ask the students to pre-teach themselves problematic vocabulary before the lesson? To what extent is that an acceptable way to get the students to take responsibility for their own learning, and to what extent is that the teacher not doing their job?This unit went over the different kinds of books and course materials available for use in the classroom. This unit showed me that a teacher does not necessarily need to bound to teaching strictly from a course book. Supplemental materials can be used to assist the teacher when utilizing a course book. Although teaching straight from the course book is less time consuming when preparing a lesson plan, it is not always geared towards the specific type of children or level you are teaching.
