I enjoyed this unit. It gave me an opportunity to slow down and really look at reading and listening. I had never really broken down these skills and looked at all the aspects. I am currently learning Thai here in Thailand, and I was able to really relate as a language learner to these skills. Especially the difference between reading a text at my own pace and listening to spoken language. The idea of the language being 'captured' allows the student much more time to digest new vocabulary and grammar.The concept and technique of testing can be but is not always so straight forward. There are a myriad of tests available to the teacher to assess their students' language abilities. Testing throughout the year vs. an initial test is quite different for both teacher and student. In addition to general tests in the classroom, there are also a variety of English language tests for an array of purposes such as entry into a university where English is the primary language of the country where the university is.
