This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I learned about the different theories of teaching English, including grammar-translation, task-based learning, communicative language teaching, community language learning, and the lexical approach. I also learned about the ESA method (Engage, Study, and Activate) as well as the 'straight arrow,' 'boomerang,' and 'patchwork' arrangements of its three phases. I also learned about the different means of elicitation during a lesson such as using real objects, pictures, drawings, lists, and gap-fill questions. I learned about suggested methods for each of the three ESA phases, such as using anagrams or the box game for engaging students, or using the hangman game during the study phase. Finally, I learned about the role of correction and correction techniques, as well as the importance of being positive when giving feedback to students.
