The unit outlines that there is vast difference between spoken English and written English. It was also emphasized that the TEFL course neglect the written aspect of English and focus more spoken English. The unit also explained the difference between fluency and accuracy of English. Therefore I have learnt that they are equally important and it is vital to have a good balance of both. I have also learnt that it is important to encourage students to explore the language through engaging them in activities that they interested in such as games, role plays and general discussions.This unit described various methods that are used to assess a student's lanugage level including the different types of tests that are used for evaluation and to determine student progress. Initially, placement tests and diagnostic tests are useful for determining what language level the student should be placed in as well as their strengths and weaknesses, respectively. Progress tests are useful during the course to provide information regarding student progress. Practice tests are helpful in preparing students for external exams such as the TOEFL or Cambridge Assessment tests.
