This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This was a very long chapter about pronunciation and phoenetic scripts. I learned a lot about a phoeneme system that I did not know even existed. There were also many detailed terminologies that described the sounds in relation to the parts of our mouth and vocal organs that are used. I found the chapter very interesting, however, I still did not understand the usefulness in teaching the phoenetic alphabet to non-native speakers. I watched the class demonstration class, and although I saw that they were learning the symbols of sounds I did not understand how that would help them recognize and distinguish which sounds to use with which words in English. Perhaps it is a way just to help them to work on producing the individual sounds in English, but I still fail to see why using a separate symbol system would help someone to do that.
