To be a successful teacher you must earn the respect and attention of the classroom. As a teacher you can gain and keep respect by building rapport with your classroom. This is done by learning every student's name, allowing students to learn each other's names, and start the school year off by using ice breaking activities to allow the classroom to get to know each other. Students are also more likely to respect you if you set rules and maintain discipline by following through with those rules and any threats made to reinforce them. Discipline can be kept by addressing the behavior and not the student while also addressing any disruptions immediately. The size of the classroom will determine the best seating arrangement along with how much space is available, types of chairs or tables, the age of the students, and their personalities.
