This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this last unit, we discussed a few general problems that teachers face. One common problem is building rapport and setting the tone during the first lesson of the class. Different solutions are available, such as warmers. It can also be difficult to handle large classes, classes with varying levels, students? use of their native language, reluctant students, and the struggles students face with listening texts, but this lesson suggests methods of handling these situations.Having two different videos of wrong and right teaching method was very useful, since watching practically how things would work with both attitudes made me quite well aware of the mistakes that teacher make. I learned how teacher's attitude and tone affect the students participation level and their interest in the lesson. Skipping the engaging phase is a big mistake that a teacher shouldn't commit. Using real objects (realia), a presentation and flashcards is really important.
