This unit gave valuable insight on teaching new language. It focused on teaching vocabulary, grammatical structures, and language functions. It gave nice tips on how to structure lessons using the ESA method.
The vocabulary part of the unit went very in-depth about how to teach vocabulary. For example, how easy or difficult certain vocabulary will be will largely depend on a number of factors such as: similarity to students' own language, similarities to English words already known by the student, spelling and pronunciation, and when it's appropriate to use. This unit provides how to evaluate students? abilities in language. In addition, this unit describes different types of test: Placement Test, Progress Test, Diagnostic Test and Practice Test and how teachers can choose these different tests according to the circumstances. According to the task sheet described at the end of every unit, I have learned which area I have known well and which area I still need to learn. This task sheet is also a kind of evaluation. So, I have learned testing and evaluation is one of the most important scopes in teaching language.
