This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Language teaching has many methods, and I believe that each teacher should find their own balance of using them. One thing I noticed is that there is a dividing point between using methods that mimic the environment of how children learn, i.e. audio-lingualism, the silent way, lexical approach, and other methods that make adaptations for the adult, using PPP, or grammar-translation, both which require more organization. I think the most effective thing I learned about was the ESA method. I believe that using this as the guide for classes, it makes class organization, and tracking progress easier, this is because so long as you understand what your class expectations are, the ESA style can be altered. Also, in terms of long-term progress, I think ESA provides a good balance of review and time to adjust to new concepts, through the stages.
