On my opinion, speaking and writing are directly connected. A man writes about what he thinks of. Students write of what they learn. It is all a complex process that takes longer or shorter depending on the culture.
For some cultures, where they do not use an alphabet, their writing is a direct expression of how they see the world that surrounds them. The Chinese characters are a symbolic and pictorial representation of how they see the world.
Their names characters are sounds that describe objects from nature. Their sounds are unique, and they may describe things like objects, colors related to darkness or daylight. For some Asian cultures, their writing is more about how they see the world and how they use elements from nature.
