English teachers can use a variety of aids to help engage students in the lesson and practice a wide range skills. For written or reading skills, teachers may utilize aids such as a board, interactive white board, overhead projector, or worksheets. For listening or speaking skills, a cassette player, CD, DVD, video camera, or computer may be used to by the students or teacher. An English dictionary or various websites may also be helpful tools for students to learn new words' meaning, pronunciation, and usage. Visual aids such as objects or pictures may also be used to illustrate new vocabulary, help keep students interested in the lesson, or to prompt various communicative activities. All of these materials should be used to help the teacher engage and challenge the students with a variety of activities apart from the use of a course book.
