The purpose of this unit was to understand the roles, responsibilities, and impacts that weigh on both teacher and student. What I found most intriguing was how many hats a teacher wears on any given day or class, and how important it is to be effective in playing each role at the right time. If a teacher can both motivate and at the same time help a student to make progress, then everyone wins.
It is also essential to learn about the variety of students that one will come across, their motivations (if any) for studying English, and how to best help keep them learning and motivated. Establishing common ground is essential to really helping individual students, according to what their language level is, as each can have its own challenges. This can also help when some students, depending on their level, experience plateaus in progress.
