In this unit I have learnt about evaluation and testing. Evaluating students' performance is necessary for both teacher and learner. It gives an insight about the students' progress; if they are improving or not. There are many ways to assess students' language levels, however, the most common one is by giving a test. I have come across placement tests - given to place new students into the correct class according to their English level, progress test - given regularly to check students' understanding, strengths, and weaknesses, diagnostic test - similar to, but more extensive than placement test, practice test - to prepare students who want to take external exams, and external examinations such as TOEFL, IELTS, and CAE. Usually students want to take external exams due to studies, work opportunities, or moving to an English-speaking country.
