The English language is so complex and there are way more rules associated with it than there seems to be. Every moment that I speak, I rarely give any thought to what \"tense\" I'm speaking, I just speak to the occassion because I had the privilege of growing up in America for the entirety of my life. How I learned to speak proper English throughout my life is a mystery to me because I certainly don't remember going into this much detail in school. But these are the things to keep in mind when teaching a foreign student: they must know the rules in order to learn and execute speaking proper English and if I am not able to explain it or even give solid examples, then I'm doing them a disservice. I'm glad this program exists to keep educators on their toes; just because we grew up speaking English certainly doesn't mean we know how to teach it.
