Materials created by teachers can be divided into two groups, authentic materials which can be geared towards the interest of a particular group of students and created materials. Course books provide a syllabus which is graded to a level suitable for students, provide security for students and teachers and offer continuity and progression. There are however, some disadvantages these include, it does not always fit the specific need and interest of all the class members, students may not like the book and might be reluctant to use it, teachers rarely get to choose the course book and many can be outdated and unattractive to the students. If teachers are fortunate enough to be able to choose the course book they should take into consideration the price, availability, methodology, skills, design, difficulty, topic and syllabus of the course book.
