This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit deals very much with the physicality of the classroom, the students and the teacher. For example, as the video points out, arranging students in a horseshoe pattern provides a fairly intimate area, though one must take care to be able to maintain eye contact with each student. It also speaks to the atmosphere of the classroom for different activities, and the role of the teacher during those activities. I have learned that it is all right to be less rigid and allow students the time to talk to, and correct, each other.I find this unit very useful, as it allowed me to see to evaluate the differences between a good and bad lesson for myself. I learned that the attitude of the teacher influences the attitude of the students. I learned that the instructions need to be clear, and that time management is very important. I learned that students respond well to games. I learned that dividing students into groups is a good way to increase student talk time. I learned that it is useful to elicit useful vocabulary before moving on to the language point.
