This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit focused on the 4 forms of past the past tense in English as well as their usage, typical student errors/mistakes and some potential activities. I found that I learned most about how past tense and present tense are similar to each other in their typical forms. For example present perfect and past perfect have nearly the same formulation and use except for the obvious difference of when they are referencing. I also found it useful to know about what issues students may have with past tenses. This unit was very similar to the unit on receptive skills, so I cannot say that I learned a great deal. However, the unit and the test gave me good ideas for how I can help students improve their speaking and writing skills: by telling stories. Additionally, as the unit pointed out, it is good to practice writing in different contexts because the styles are different depending on them. For instance, students should be able to practice with e-mails, essays, letters, and creative writing (stories).
