This unit reflects upon the two basic skills related to teaching receptive skills -- reading and listening. The lesson offers directions on how to construct lesson plans according to ESA structures and offers examples (such as activities) to get the point across. Reading and listening are used in various scenarios and it is important to identify for which purpose which skill is being used. It also, for example, discusses the importance of choosing topics (a variety of topics) that will hold students' interest to assist in the learning process.Unit 10 demonstrated the importance of how the teacher's attitude and level of engagement attributed to the effectiveness of the lesson. Students need to feel welcomed, included, valued and encouraged to increase their involvement and enjoyment in the process of learning. It also shows the benefits of using visual aids and mime to aid students in understanding the meanings of the vocabulary used in the lesson. Finally, the importance of incorporating and associating each phase of the chosen ESA methodology in order to maximize student success.
