Unit 9 looks at course books and materials and the benefits of both Authentic and created materials in a class setting. Authentic materials such as a restaurant menu could provide confidence to a student in their day to day use of the language while a created material such as a flash card could focus on a key topic and be tailored specifically to the leaners ability meaning both types of materials offer their own contrasting set of benefits.
I found gaining a more solid understanding of these materials through the many examples giving in this unit really helped me to broaden my lesson options for both the study and active phase of a lesson. I also found the information regarding options for use of course books very helpful as in my previous experience as a vocal teacher not all elements of a course book are relevant or useful to all students.
