Unit 12 focused on the productive skills, writing and speaking and the importance of both. There is always a purpose for communication. There is also the need to develop accuracy in writing and fluency in speaking. Students have to be encouraged to develop their writing skills as well as to experiment and be creative in using language, in the classroom. This can be done by creating the atmosphere where they are comfortable with the teacher and fellow students and are not afraid to make mistakes.
We learnt techniques to prepare students for creative speaking activities and to encourage interaction. For developing writing skills ,we looked at grammar, handwriting, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation. An example of a creative writing lesson was given, using the straight arrow ESA method. Several games were suggested to assist in teaching language.
